All the things I could have learned not only about life but about him, his journey, and our family history. When my father passed, I realized all that I had picked up along the way. Suddenly I was able to see my own life in a whole new way. I knew that to be the best man, the best husband, and the best father I could be, I would need to make a change. I would need to live as my father did, and own my story. Welcome to the next iteration and celebration of owning your story, repurposing your life, and your passions. It is with great pleasure, I present to you P.O.P.s Port-au-Prince/Port-of-Prince. Named after the capital of Haiti, this ruby port is a second toast and thank you to my father."

Shae Frichette, Frichette Winery, Red Mountain, WA - 2021 Sashay Reserve Syrah, Red Heaven, Red Mountain.  Southern born and raised, Shae Frichette makes a wine that reflect the tastes and style of the women she grew up with, the ones who'd sashay into a room, head high, smelling of sweet perfume and were heard. You are Strong. You are Courageous. You are Fierce. You have the ability to create positive change in this world. So lift your chin, push your shoulders back and sashay. Every women has a voice. Joseph Smith, Winemaker JSL Wines, Lodi, CA - 2019 Concrete "Old Vine" Zinfandel. The wine was produced using the Flash Détente process and fermented in a combination of 75-year-old Concrete tanks and small 60 gallon new and used French and American oak barrels. All the wine was subsequently aged in those same oak barrels for at least a year. It is this combination of old and new techniques, the result of years of experimentation that gives our Concrete Zinfandel greater complexity and this unique flavor profile. This Zinfandel is a luscious, smooth, full-bodied wine with aromas of blackberry, bramble berry and Allspice. Deliciously mouth-filling, the wine opens up to sweet vanilla and toasty oak flavors, then follows with a concentrated core of well-balanced acidity, soft, but firm tannins and a lingering finish on the palate. 85% Zinfandel, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Donna Stoney, Stoney Wines, Willamette, OR - 2021 A Colorful World - Cabernet Franc. Rich, full palate with light bramble flavors and hints of pepper and dried chiles. Aromatized by ripe red plums and blackberry. This is a Donna Stoney, winemaker, and Artist, Joachim McMillan original collaboration. 'A Colorful World' Cab Franc was created from a simple conversation between the two about representing our society's beauty while showcasing their creations. They hope to showcase and support each other's endeavors through this project.

More Details

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED. HOWEVER, YOU CAN CONTINUE TO DONATE AND PURCHASE WINE BOXES WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

In 2020, the inaugural Soul of Seatle was held at the Northwest African American Museum. Thirteen Black Chefs and Black Beverage Leaders offered their culinary talents to guests through the food that best represents them. VIP dinner guests were treated to a multi-course dinner curated by Chef Jordan and Toni Tipton-Martin, James Beard award-winning food and nutrition journalist, highlighting dishes of two centuries of African American ancestral food. The night included a silent auction and other activities.

With things quickly changing less than a month after the event, the need for support for Black-owned businesses had immensely grown. In 2021, the Soul of Seattle went virtual and focused on directly helping the participating Black-owned businesses as well as another nonprofit organization that empowers youth of color in Seattle.

February 10, 2024, The Soul of Seattle is back and in-person. Twenty Black chefs and beverage leaders will feature their favorite dish and beverage to attending guests while guests enjoy soulful sounds of music from Seattle’s own DJ Twilight.

VIP dinner guests will experience a five-course dinner curated by celebrity chef Jerome Brown, chef to the stars, Food Network Xtreme chef, and author of Carolina Soul and Eat Like a Celebrity. Chef Jerome, affectionately known as Chef Rome, will create dishes paired with wines from Washington’s first Black women winemaker, Shae Frichette, winemaker, and co-owner of Frichette Winery. VIP guests will also enjoy the smooth sounds of the Fredy Andres Trio.
